Thanks good examples!In carpintus, as in many central American cichlids, the males fins are more pointed at the posterior, and its profile is steeper.
This is not always the case, but is in general. For comparison below is a female carpintus chairel

note the roundish posterior of the dorsal fin, and gentle slope of the profile.
below is what I think is a male, fins come to a point, and profile is steeper, beginings of a hump.

Even when small the dominant male profile is fairly dramatic in comparison to others
