Male or Female

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Based on the marmoratas i have kept, i would say female because of the white line on its dorsal fin.

Females have it. It was my quess but its nice to have multiple opinions

tropical world it is then i will have to check him out st louis kind of sucks for cichlids know what i mean or am i missing all the good stores

No you are correct for the most part. They do about the best that I have been to around St. Louis. I picked a nice true Trimac, Zonatus and Argentea from there. Its also where I got my Xingu I, Johanna and as I said earlier, he ordered the Marmorata for me. It was with his store order of course so I imagine that is why he did not hit me up for the shipping.

You can find certain stores that carry quite abit of Africans but not many
CA or SA. I heard of a couple around St. Charles but never have been there. Beldts has went way down hill, don't carry many new worlds, mainly Africans there as well, and to steal one of your terms they are getting very
Salty as well.

Lovely!! Thats a very nice lookin marm!! Will be awesome to watch it grow up and color up!! Always a treat with marmoratas and lenticulatas cuz you never completely know what they are going to look like as adults. Congrats on gettin it for so cheap as well. I would grab some more if i were you, thats a great deal! As for it being a female, depending on the size, female is pretty accurate. The pink in the tail really has nothing to do with it, as both sex's should get this coloration. Its the dorsal fin that is the distiguishing factor. The white stripe is a great indicator for female. It still has a ways to grow though, so its possible it might really be a male...as there might be a couple more color changes...;). Female as of right now though...haha

Salty, you bets do that if you want one! They still have some as I checked out their website...very nice fish indeed. Wish there was more SA selection though. Oh well!

Thanks Peanut. I thought she was a pretty good one especially for the price. I was trying to find out from what region it is
from but haven't received an answer from the vendor yet.

Heard back from Atlantis Tropical Fish. The marm that I bought is
shipped out of Belem and caught from the Rio Tapajos region.

Huh, which region of the Rio Tapajos was it collected from? Cuz it really doesn't look like the Rio Tapajos variant I've seen. Very nice!! Definately keep a photo journal of its progress! :D

Hey Peanut, Can you explaing the differences between the regions. I don't really know. I know Tapajos usually has more red involved in there species.
That is just how they responded to my email, they probably just said
that to pacify me so I would not bug them any more.

Its kinda hard to explain. Its just the Rio Tapajos marms i got from Rapps had more of a marbled color on them and a little more color on their tails. Which is why I was wondering what locality along the Rio Tapajos yours were collected. Pikes are so variable with their coloration, its not even funny. Kinda why its best to get several from the same batch, cuz its hard to get ones from the same locality twice...haha. Heres a picture of a female Rio Tapajos...gorgeous eh?
