Male or ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks a lot like the female I had, most large males I've seen had at least a small nuchal hump, but like most people said, more pics are needed

I've got a pic (not mine - courtesy of cicman from this forum) of what would be considered typical female - less spangling on the body, more of a splotchy (light-dark) patterning on the flanks, and thin and less vibrant color banding on the dorsal and caudal fins.

Sorry that you got confused. Let me clarify. I think yours is a male. Several others said female, but I wanted to show you what a female looks like, and it's NOT like yours.

Hello all. I do agree that your GT is a male. The pic that came from me is a typical female. She is still a baby, but as you can plainly see mine has less color. I also have a baby male that I hope will grow as nice as yours.

Female has duller and darker color than male. In breeding dress, female will darken further with two veritical white strikes in the middle and a black side burn marking on the gill. Juvenile female in dominant position can brighten up like a male and can be mistaken as a male. The first pic below is a female, and the second a male.
