So I have a 140 gallon had the female RTM that I got from another MFK member. Bought the Texas at a lfs during a sale weekend, didn't know what sex he was till his thing dropped. I left for 2 days came back and a whole flower pot with eggs. I did do a major water change before leaving. The dad keeps trying to go in the pot should I remove him to another tank? he's getting beat up a lil now, don't want it to get really bad. I am not sure if he will eat them.

I was thinking about leaving the fry with the female bc she's a mouth brooder or no? I could be wrong, but think I'm going to move the dad for his wellness and the eggs lol. I originally bought the Texas to try to cross breed with something for a red Texas, but guess he mated before I found his a suitable female. Much agreed should be a very interesting cross.

They're brownish so I believd they're fertilized. There are a lot of eggs almost half the flower pot.

Just a small point to not be misleading.
While none of the Parachromis, or Herichthys are mouthbrooders, there are many South Americans that are.
Some Geophagus, Gymnogeophagus and the severum complex are.
I have had Geo altifrons spawn and mouthbrood fry.
Below are pics of my Gymnogeophagus gymnogonys yerbalito mouthbrooding fry.

And as cichlids are constantly evolving, I wouldn't be surprised if others start the practice.

Gonna take some pics today and upload them! Ahhh that's interesting nice fish. I have an Oscar at the other end of the tank they haven't really messed with him but thinking of just having the mom and eggs in the 140. My tank info on my profile is old totally went a different way with live stock. I heard that if the eggs stay with the parents they grow faster, not sure if there is truth to that.
