Thanks, yes he is actually quite the looker.
He has been beating his mate a lot, and so she keeps on hiding most of the time. She laid eggs last week, but for some reason the male half way through the mating, started beating her - and then the next day ate all the eggs. She isn't in very good shape right now (slightly torn fins etc.) - so didn't include her pictures - hopefully next time (when the spawn!?) I will!

Very nice! I gain more respect for thsi species the more I see larger specimens.

Thanks, yes I can see why. The smaller trimacs are quite drab, but they keep on getting amazing colors as they put on mass and size. I think the color contrast this fish has, and the "trailing" fins they develop makes a fully-grown male a treat to watch.

Simply amazing

Thanks, and for the record I think your midas is the most beautiful I have seen on MFK. I wish his black won't fade away with age though.

He's getting close to full grown so I'm pretty sure he'll keep some of the black colors, only thing is don't know how much. I'll have to try find pix of her.

Used to have a female Trimac a number of years ago and she was super thick/heavy bodied.

I think such colors are not very commonplace in midas (atleast they don't appear/stay that way in adults). He is really amazing.

I think I have seen her pics earlier last year when I was looking for Trimacs. She was *very* big and looked almost like a male.

Yea they usually lose they black colors around the 6-7" mark, even though some do keep it till 9". That should be the one, I originally thought she was a he till found eggs in her tank(she was kept in her own tank like most of my other fishes).
