Exactly. I'm glad someone is firm.... Ask a question, get several identical responses (from some very knowledgible people) but then disagrees and challenges the advice. Strange.
yeah, it's all about shedding if it hasn't been used by that time.
my male currently has 2 because one is going to be falling off soon.
my female currently has 1 due to the fact that she shed hers already. she did have 2 though when she was getting ready to shed.
there is also the possibility that a stingray would keep a 2nd barb and not shed it, for some unknown reason. there have been documented cases of rays with multiple barbs on the tail that were not shed off.
They don't shed the older one till the new one fully comes in. Then they will retain two full spines for a time then
shed. Its not like a deer antler, where the deer sheds then several months later a new one starts growing in. While its said
that rays can have as many as three spines, I have yet to see one or even a picture of one with three. More than likely
it just hasn't shed the older spine yet.
If you are really observant you will learn that the new one always grows in where the old one has been shed. For instance
if the new comes in on top and the older is shed from the bottom, then the next time the new will come in on bottom and the
older will shed on top.
its not strange, it asking questions.... I have a male ray pup that has been alive for just a few months, and has had a double barb since his was only 3weeks old... simple as that... no need to be a you know what house64 if you cant add anything USEFUL to this thread then why are you here?!
I simply wanted to know IF it is possible for a ray to have more than 1 barb even if the ray isnt ABOUT to lose a barb....
its for DISCUSSION not for some1 to be a punk and derail a thread. K THANKS
i dont know, maybe im a craxk head haha. I went and look at him, i guess maybe i saw both his barbs the same size, but there is one about 1/2" longer than the other, but this is still kinda odd how he had 2 barbs at 3weeks old, isn't it?
