No Im not talking about nutria..... Norwegian rats maybe? African?? I can't remember the name. I think norwegian are run of the mill rats. so maybe african. I get your point, and I think people also care A LOT about other feral creatures. But that doesn't play down what snakes do and have the potential to do. They are just as viable a threat as any number of other animals. Still I think the shows play on peoples instinctive fear of rats, snakes, insects etc. just because a lot people think they're gross.

Ive heard a bunch of crazy stories. One has a "scientist" say that the afrocks will hybridize with the the burms and make some "super snake" xD

If they had done a little research they would have found afrock X Burms grow smaller than either parent.

all animal planet and other shows like it only care about ratings

Gambian Pouch Rats?

Are snakes a viable threat? Of course! But are they going to spread over the southern third of the US within a couple years, join forces with African rocks and create supersnakes that will run rampant through the countryside gobbling up everyone in their path and leaving a trail of burning wreckage..? No, they are not...

Yeah they actually mentioned that possibility on the show.

Thats it! Gambian pouch rats. they look nasty. Ok ok I see what you are saying. They're obviously not going to do THAT. I just hate it when people downplay the situation just because of the ban imposed upon them.

The question is whether people are downplaying it or whether the media is exaggerating... They ARE restricted to three counties in the very southern tip of Florida, they cannot survive further north, recent extra cold winters have killed 80% of them or more, they are all from the same bloodlines as genetic testing has confirmed and they have actually been there for twenty or thirty years, the only reason it's suddenly all over the news is that this picture started circulating, giving animal rights groups ammo to shoot down reptile keepers and creating a great piece for the media.

Someone posted that picture a while back,it's pretty gruesome.Somehow it looks as if the gator is sticking out of the side of the snake as if the snake exploded.

This made Fox News this morning, well not specifically this, the story was originally about a group called EcoDogs which is training dogs to sniff out invasive snakes and how this group goes out hunting for them using the dogs. But they made numerous points of exaggerating the invasive level and blaming it all on irresponsible pet owners who aren't capable of handling the animals and then releasing them. The EcoDogs thing was cool, I'd like to read more about them... The rest, not so much. -_-

And Gambian Pouch Rats! I've wanted one of those since that special came out about how they use one in *insert African country I can't remember at the moment here* for detecting land mines and other things. Didn't know that's the species that was invasive in the states.
