Man goes to jail for peeing on Alamo object

What then if he is a vagrant?...I'm okay with at least a one year sentence and then deportation if applicable, for anyone who desecrates any national monument.Flagburners should get more time.

The guy who peed on the Alamo doesn't look like he is here illegally, if that's what "deportation if applicable" meant. Texas is on the border with our southern neighbors, but this guy looks like he didn't come from south of the border. Just curious, how do you feel about the two boy scout leader who toppled an ancient rock formation in a Utah state park. They didn't get much more than a slap on the wrist. Also, as far as any flag burning done here in the US, it seems that it's always carried out by leftist extremist who are coincidentally US citizens. Seems like much of our country's national monument desecrators are homegrown domestic parasites. Just sayin'...

No jail time. 18 months? Seriously? and 10 grand is beyond excessive. 1g MAX.

Freedom of expression. NO jail time no fine nothing.

Why live in a country that you hate? If you hate what it stands for and feel the need to burn the American flag, then they should leave. Go somewhere where they are proud of whatever flag it is that waves there. No one is forcing them to stay.

for nonviolent offenders, seems like there should be tasks created to have them work off damages to public property, rather than rack up even more expense to taxpayers for that long in jail.
(I'm thinking of not only this particular crime)

Maybe they dont hate it? In the end it doesnt matter the reasoning. It is their right to burn it in protest and I agree with their right. Might not agree with doing it but it is neither my nor your place to try and over ride that right.

Maybe they lit the flag on fire by accident??? There are other ways to protest besides burning a flag. The American Flag is a symbol of everything this country stands for, including the right to free speech. So why burn the symbol that encapsulates all these freedoms which we often take for granted. If they really want to make a statement and enjoy burning things, I suggest they try self-immolation.

Facepalm...

Thank you!I couldn't have put this any better.A person can be thrown in jail for spitting on a sidewalk or pissing in an alley whether those are considered acts of expression or not lol.I saw a few comments about taxpayers dollars being saved but I think other areas should be considered rather than in law enforcement...such as the welfare situation and people living in homes rent free on the tax payers dime.
