This story hasn't been reported much here, I thought it would have been a fairly big story but nothing more than a small mention Maybe the media is trying to discourage copy cats. In a way I do hope it was mental illness because I don't like the thought that "normal" people think this is a good way to make a statement of any kind.
Good point. I dont know which way to go. I can unfortunately see a scenario where some attention/you tube/activist look at me type who's "normal" does something crazy like this. Our media (U.S.) does a great job of whipping up all kinds of hysteria that unfortunately gets lapped up by the masses. They hide behind freedom of the press and arent held responsible for how they report the news regardless if they are completely lying. Though some recent court cases may put an end to this practice.
I wonder why, I thought it would be a massive story for you guys, maybe they are worried it will become a trend. If they figure out why he actually did it possibly it will get more coverage. Not really a pleasant thing to happen but I'm genuinely curious why anyone would do such a thing, there's not too many things I could think of that would make me go to such extremes. Perhaps there was no reason but it's hard to imagine doing it for no reason too.
Who knows, just another weird disturbing thing in this increasingly bizzare world we live in.
Hello; I briefly thought about this as well. I have not so far come up with anything I will set myself on fire about. I do not have kids. I for sure would not for either of my X-wives. My parents are both dead.

Just as a matter of curiosity what might you consider a reason?
It was more a figure of speech really. I guess if it really came down to it would have to be something truly horrendous involving my daughter but would really be the most final ,no way out, last resort.
I mentioned the Vietnamese monks who burned themselves in a previous post, I visited their monastery when on holiday there and read about their reason/motivation. It was very complex political and religious stuff, more than just "stop the war" but they genuinely thought it would make a difference in the end, obviously didn't work. I was single and childless at the time and had the same thought that I wouldn't ever feel strongly enough about anything to set myself on fire for.
I'm actually relieved you wouldn't do it for your ex wives for some reason!
Some people are extremely passionate about certain subjects but what is the point in pulling such a stunt without providing some kind of explanation?
