Are there any manageable sized South American catfish out there? What I mean by that is catfish that don't grow over 2'. 12-18'' is fine with me. I know there is four lined pim cats, pictus cats, rapheals and such. I plan on having a four line pictus... but I am kind of looking for something unique. Many years ago my dad got me an incredible birthday gift which was 3 Black tip Mouse catfish (Hassar) and I have been dying to find them but haven't had luck. (pics below are of the catfish I am talking about)
But are there any other cool oddball catfish suggestions out there that come from South America since I am doing a Bio-tope aquarium.
Looking forward to hearing your cool catfish ideas.484099_573988272615568_1491039048_n.jpg has.jpg

I saw that, but usually when I order online I like to get as many of the fish that I want because of the high shipping cost.
I am looking for an oxydoras niger, I know they get huge but they grow very slowly.

O. niger hit 2' in ~2 years, 3' in ~3-5 years if kept right. You probably meant irwini catfish aka Megalodoras uranoscopus, these grow slow. Pterodoras granulosus too grow slower than Oxydoras.

There are so many SA catfish that I'd almost suggest to narrow down your question. Indeed black top mouse catfish are very cute. I see them rarely for sale or their cousins from Hassar genus. There are many other medium size Doradiids available, e.g., Centrodoras brachiatus.

Lots of driftwood catfish are available.

Heptapteridae also have medium growing cats, e.g., Rhamdia quelen.

Pseudopimelodidae has much to offer.

Finally, Pimelodidae has too - browse through the Family and select what you like looks wise and size wise.
