this came up in another thread, and I'd given up looking for these fish, but now I'm all obsessed again. So, here it goes.

I don't like the golden/dark/brownish colored Jags -- let's call them the Honduran type. I like the bright white ones with the very tiny black maze pattern. I thought they were "Nicaraguan", but I wasn't sure. So, I emailed Jeff Rapps, he sent me pics of all the types he's imported, and what his experiences are with the different types.

So, this thread is a place to put all those pictures from Jeff, recap his information, and some links to past conversations here on MFK about all this.

Hopefully, somebody here will read through all this, and PM me with "I have some Jags just like that--had 'em for years. You want some fry? Pay the shipping I'll send you 20".

First, I'll post the pics Jeff sent me.

"I've collected managuensis from Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and even Panama.
Attached are some photos of individuals from known province.

Tempisque and Siquirres are southern occurences in Costa Rica.
Rio Panama, Lago Xiloa, and L. Nicaragua are, of course, of Nica origin.
The Xiloa fish had a bluish tint upon import. I didn't reserve any for breeding program."

Jeff ended with three pics of what I'd get if I ordered a captive bred Jag...

"The last 3 pics are what you can expect from captive Nicaraguan stock."

So, of all these Jags, I don't like ANY of them EXCEPT for this one.

So, I'm looking for a Jag that's descended from WC Lago Nicaragua Jag's like that one Rapps used to have way back when. I know other people have Jags like this--here's some links to people showing them off.

Like here...."Thorzep" in post #10, has one of these bright white fine patterned Jags, too. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/sexing-jaguars.238740/

Then this video has an AWESOME looking Jag.....

And this one, too.....

All of them, bright white with a very fine maze pattern, from Lake Nicaragua...

So, who has some like that? Where can I get some fry? How long have you had yours?

you have all seen plenty vids of my WC jags, sounds like you are leaning twords the Lago. I prefer the golden with velvet black marking and blueing on the fins,

as a refresh my male is costa rica and female honduras.

Greg --

Yea, looking at your posts are what got me really interested in Jags a couple years back. So, I bought a Honduran from CoA. He was cool, but definitely not a "community" fish even at 6-7 inches. So, I traded him because I really wanted some Vieja in that tank.

Then I started missing him, looking at Jags on the Internet, and finally noticing the differences ..... and developing a preference.

It seemed that some years back, the Hondurans became all the rage, and I think these Nicaraguans kinda fell outta favor. Mo Devlin's photos pretty much cinched it, I think.
