so I got rid of my other cichlids and kept my 11 inch male jag, I bought a 6 inch female jag that was already paired up laying eggs with the other male when I bought her. the minute I put her in he showed interest. after awile he got more and more pushy with her chasing her and nudging her but that quickly turned into aggressive chasing and biting, I made a nice spot for her to hide and now she just sits there. I wanted to pair them off but idk if its going to work. what do you guys think?

Sometimes you get pairs that get along better then others. It is pretty common for male Parachromis to get pretty rough with females. Make sure she has a place to escape his beatings. Being a new pair it may take a little while for them to pair up, sounds like he is ready and she is not, usually how it goes right. I have kept a pair of them for years, just split them up a week ago, years of abuse and breading have taken a toll on her. It's hard on the females over the years. Just give it time and see how things go. Good chance things will work out, may just be a abusive pair. The larger the tank the better for the pair.

She might not be able to handle the male, I'd definitely keep an eye on them if your going to give it a go. I'd guess there's a good chance he will kill her, with her being half his size and given they already went at it pretty hard, but stranger things have happened, maybe they can work it out. Are you cool with rolling the dice?

he cant get to her right now, shes well guarded for now, im giving her time to recoupe from all the abuse she took at petland lol

Use some eggcrate and separate the tank if the beatings continue; at least until she heals up

image.jpgI'm using the plastic caging for office fluorescent lights, you can buy it at Home Depot and rig it to hang from the top of your tank with rocks/gravel keeping it in place at the bottom. Easy stuff to work with.
