I always heard that it's hard to tell when young, mine have been a pain! They constantly change coloration, some days really spotty some days mostly barred! To make things worse I have two that paired up and I "think" they are both female!
Now as Aquamojo said, you can clearly tell which is male and which is female, but if you saw the male alone, based on coloration, you could guess female!
