Managuense tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would guestimate that the majority of Managuense that are in hobbyist tanks are no more than a foot long. 14" would be on the outside. Most fish have to be alive for a decade before reaching that length. I have yet to see one of the "monster" managuense that people talk about....either in a tank or in the wild.

couldnt agree more with you mojo. seems like very few reach over 14" or so and hardley any get to the mythical 17"+ that people mention. could be similar to why theres maybe only one dovii in captivity that has reached the 24"+ and most max out around 20" and its a combination of water chemistry, genetics, tank size etc..

It's an interesting subject. Many species kept in aquaria exceed the size of what they can be found at in the wild. There seems to be a few species that don't, particularly the larger "monster" fish.

Here's a big boy:

Thanks! In regards to the OP's question ide say any tank that's at least 24" thick is aceptable. My guy would be miserable in anything smaller than a 180g

Thanks for the info. :) Got a five inch fellow that will eventually go into a 300 gallon tank.

I got a pair that does well in a 120 but unique size being only 18 inches deep but there isn't anything in the tank except large flat rock with two fish. My male is about 15 inches and female 10. They do well and have bred 6 sets of successful fry. I sold them to local LFS but didn't get rich off them LOL.
