Oh I see lol. But still, that red substrate in the OP's tank isn't pumice. It's what they call "Lava Rock" - porous and light just like pumice, but always sinks in water right away.bigspizz;2552038; said:It does not float in my sump...lol

There are many different types of lava rock, because there are different types of lava. Different lava types solidify to form different rocks. Lava rock does not necessarily mean pumice.

OK....."pal"...Pumice is a textural term....When lava effervesces, it produces pumice...Lava produces four types of rocks....PUMICE...obsidian, rhyolite, and scoria....Pumice can be all different colors, but the texture is how it is clasified...The chemistry means nothing....
