mantis shrimp coral safe?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep a rather large Peacock with all sorts of corals. Totally harmless to corals--just make sure everything is glued down to large rocks. He steals everything small (rubble) to make his home. I wouldn't trust him with any inverts at all.

i think it depends on the mantis it self. i have thrown two different kinds of snails in with my peacock mantis and he hasnt even looked their way.drop a small goldfish in and its on. hes on it as soon as he has it in his sights.other people as well as me have put tankmates with red belly piranahas with luck.sometimes you just get lucky.even a sure thing in the fish world can go wrong. good luck and be sure to tell us what works and what doesnt.

GF is the proper food for a SW animal.

any food anything will readly take and thrive on is not a bad thing.all my lfs tell me im going to kill my fish by feeding them trout chow. 30yrs later all my fish thrive.20 yrs ago when i had sw tanks i actually had a gold fish live and convert to saltwater he grew to 2 inches in length and lasted for 6 months. then i got a niger trigger. game over for the sw goldfish.

No personal attacks will be tolerated on this site.

thankyou ewurm for keeping us on the right track. my peacock mantis is very curious he has only ate shrimp and fillet from me so far but has not killed and eaten any snails or hermit crabs yet. i try to offer as many different things as i can. but so far he has only killed goldfish.(somepeople have had good luck feeding all kinds of different foods). i will soon try to keep some small corals too in the future and will post exactly what MY EXPERIENCES ARE . until then i enjoy reading about other mantis shrimp owners and THEIR EXPERIENCES.
