when should i take out the shedded skin of my mantis shrimp?he just shed his skin today and i was wondering if i should leave it in for a while or take it out right away. i have a bunch of tarantula spiders that shed their skin too and i leave it in for them for security blanket type reasons. is the mantis the same? any knowledge will help thanks. so far he is keeping his skin close bye and laying on his back often.

THANKS FOR YOU EDUCATED GUESS. now that the kids had their say lets open this question up for the adults :). my experience with my bird eating spiders is to leave their molted skins in with them.it acts like a security blanket too them because of the trama they go thru too molt. i know that these shrimp are closly related to pill bugs and other land based creatures.i have left the skin in with the shrimp and it seems to enjoy it(keeping it real close by). maybe 1 more day in before i take it out unless someone has info to what should be done if anything. for those who want to learn i will keep posting my experiences, and keep ignoring vldesign.looking forward to real comments thanks.

I would say just leave the molted shell by him in the tank.It will keep the mantis shrimp calm like mines...if you must take it out....try taking it out when its nowhere near it...if it finds out you have it in hand it may go crazy and start doing something unexpected. How big is your aquarium? Also i'd advise you not to disturb it right now since it has just finishes molting and it need to get back to its usual self.Give it another day or so to recover from its traumatizing day.Hope this kinda helps you out =)

I would have to say listen to VLDesign's advice...Take it out. As it decomposes it will lower the water quality.

And posting in all caps with little attention to grammar (not to mention no sense of humor) makes me think you're less of an adult. :)

you can think what you want ,vl has been trying to bash me for awhile with no idea who he is talking to. i have a great sense of humor and can make anybody laugh. my grammar could use a little touching up but whos couldnt.not on the computer enough, i have too many hobbies to worry about my spelling. thanks for the sound advise guys, i think my trantula experience is telling me to leave it in for another day. and my fish experience is telling me that my water is perfect and always is. maybe ill go to another website and ask someone how my sense of humor is. until then, only fish questions and answers will be coming from me on this fish keeping website. thank you.

well he ate the molting!!!. i kinda thought he would but wasnt going to say anything until i knew for sure. i was told by lfs that it might happen. so now with reg. water change and small clean up of left overs he will be back to normal. merry xmas mfk's

So I guess that gives him back the calcium, etc, that he loses when moulting, by eating it? I take out my CBS & cleaner's moultings. My Mantis has only moulted 1x that I can tell in the 6 months I knew him & he ate it.
