Mantis Shrimp- Tank Suggestions...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You're welcome! I've only had mine for two-three weeks but mantises are easy to keep...

It's basically my first saltwater pet.

I mean, my tank is only almost done cycling...that's how easy to keep they are...

You've probably seen this page, but http://www.blueboard.com/mantis/care/maintain.htm

I think someone on this forum sent me the link two months ago.

Oh yeah and I forgot about your other Q's

Optional:
Skimmer
Fuge
Good decor like LR (You can decorate ahead by creating sites that seem favorable for your future mantis to create a burrow such as putting a PVC tube into the tank or choosing LR that have arches so that when introducing your animal into the tank close to the site where you hope it will choose as it's burrow) Advantages of "choosing" where your mantis's den are that you can see it more (in case it decides to have the mouth of it's den facing the back, behind a piece of LR) and making it accessible for you to feed it etc.

Advisable:
A fuge or a breeder box full of prey items that can be fed out to your shrimp
Good water flow
Weaker lighting and places of shade (I think they can get shell erosion if kept in strong light?)
Decor that is a a certain color (e.g. purple or green) so that it gets the shell color that you like as it's color will change to match it's surroundings after a few molts.

Must:
Strong water flow
Remove all remnants of half eaten corpses regularly
Non reflective tank sides
Single mantis shrimp only
