Yep, My Bad! Oddly enough, on the way home tonight, I stopped by a guys house and he said, "Hey, I need to get rid of this Peacock Mantis Shrimp" This thing is about 4-5 inches long and crazy looking. I paid $30 for him, is that a reasonable price? I have no idea. Will I be able to put him in a tank with small to medium sized triggers? He lived with a damsel, so I think the triggers would would be safe, just don't know if the shrimp is "bad" enough to survive being in with them if it has some good hiding places.

1.) trigger attacks mantis

2.) mantis smahes triggers skull.

Keep in mind peacocks break glass tanks.

No worries Corey, I have this in a 40 Gallon by itself. Well, it has the Damsel that it has lived with for the last year in with it. I just don't know much about the Mantis Shrimp / Trigger relationship. I do know that some things that you would think wouldn't get along do, and things that you think would get along just fine try to kill one another. I am setting up a display tank with a few triggers in it, (90 Gal) and I just thought maybe if the shrimp had good hiding places, it might do OK. I was wondering if anyone had any ACTUAL experience with this. My thoughts were that both would be wary of the other, with the shrimp being the most dangerous with a sneak attack. With this shrimp having the personality that tolerates this damsel, maybe it would work out.

Okay, Okay, I give. I wanted to be able to display both in my new tank, but after all the advice and research, I see it is WAY too risky. I read an article where the writer said that the mantis shrimp they were observing killed 3 clown triggers in one night. Not only am I crushed whenever I lose a tank dweller, I don't have $300 to take a chance on.

If you need to return him let me know it's not problem...

sorry just looking out for the shrimp and your fish anyway if you need help just ask you'll get more than you can handle form everyone around here everbody is more than willing to lend a hand also as VLdesign said if you want to get rid of him I'll buy him from you no problem there

It's all good Rich (VLDESIGN), It wasn't a matter of returning him, it is just how to display him. I need to figure out a way that I can (safely) where I have the ability to watch him as much as possible. I am very curious about these, and I want to learn as much as I can.

Does anyone have pictures of their mantis or setup? I could find very few pictures of them in captivity.

keep mantis with a single clownfish in a 40 with an anemone for the clown lots of rock thats it feed it crabs snails starfish etc.
