Mantis shrimp

who here keeps mantis shrimp? I saw a big one at an lfs the other day and was thinking of setting up just a small tank and keeping just this fish in there if thats possible...What size tank would be good for one,filter, and all that...i dont want to put a wet/dry filter on a very small tank...Please share your info and experiences

I know they are capable of breaking glass and no other tankmates but just wanted to know what a good setup would be for the mantis..Would a 10gal be ok for one???

I would go with acrylic and I would say minimum would be 40 gallons. Minimum thickness 1/2 inch acrylic, IMO.

40 breeder would be a good size but depending on what sp. of stomatopod you get there are some that could live in a 10 for life....

Aight thanks wat species are there? I only know of the smasher and the one that uses like a spear.....which one could i keep in a ten cuz i was thinking like a desktop tank (small)....thanks

I kept one for some time, and the general consensus is that they will not break aquarium glass, even though they are capable. I kept a "Spearer" myself, but the "Smasher" species are certainly capable especially when digging. You're better off putting a sheet of acrylic at the bottom of a normal glass aquarium.
