many faces of the dovii

While I have all you dovii folks here I just want to ask what types of growth rates have you seen. My dovii is 10-11 inches long and maybe 10-11 months old. Still really shy and is constantly picked on by a 4 inch convict...but always comes back for more. Is all this typical it just doesn't seem to fit all the stories you hear.

Mine was mixed with other amercian cichlids for the first year. Mine grew to about 11 inches in the first year but started destroying everything at around 7 inches and was super aggressive from a small size. The only reason he lasted this long with tankmates was because they were all larger then him. I've heard of docile dovii but can't imagine it. The babies that I've raised are even super aggressive at 1.5 inches and if I don;t feed them 3 times a day they dine on eachother or some african fry I'm raising with them.
 
Mines 11 inches and still shy. Unless I put in another fish then he'll try his best to destroy it. Or if he's hungry he'll beg for food. Other then that he always hides from me. Still wondering when this will go away
