You know, keeping reptiles is a science, it's not a matter of opinion, though they count, they cannot exceed the tangible proof stuck in your face. Don't accept it, good for you, join the people in their "its-not-true", disillusioned sector. With that said, this does not refer to you. So yes, I mentioned before, for their sake, keep them together for now, but you MUST get another suitable tank to separate them. The observations you made are, to no offense meant, a form of self comforting. Good luck.

Well...hopefully neither turtle becomes a victim of the experimentation.

I don't think anyone mentioned this and I don't know if you're going to take this into account but the skin covering a softshell turtles shell is easy scratched by other turtles sharp nails (like on your map) and that can easily lead to secondary infections.

oh yeah i no that the shell is very soft. my friend has a tank with jsut soft shells and they scratch each other up like crazy. and yeah im going to upgrade in the next couple of weeks. they will each have there own 40 breeder untill they out grow then n then for an upgrade...thnx every one

iv seen maps that were bigger then large sliders... a LFS here has one that is freaking HUGE over a foot in length maybe a little less wide....so i dont think they stay to small....good luck with your turtles

both those turtles will take down fish, if you are thinking of keeping fish in the future with them don't put anything you don't mind losing. The soft shell is a terror to the fish and is an excellent hunter, keeping fish with this one will be a restocking weekly en devour.

That's true but it also depends on the species of Map Turtle. Many stay quite small. But the females have the ability to be almost twice the size of the males when full grown.

Ive caught and measured some northern map turtles in upstate NY that were well over 10 inches in length so they can get quite large depending on the species. But generaly map turtles stay relatively small.

so today i put some goldfish into the tank for the turtles to check out and maybe eat if they wish. but to really see how they are wish fish...and they showed no interest... the map swam up n looked at them so did the soft shell but after that they went on swimming... lets see how long it lasts.
