Marble Fenestratus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are a natural color variant found in Lake Catemaco, Mex.
10" is average size, and they are quite aggressive, especially in smallish tanks.
I have found they are fine with non-cichlid dithers, but kept with other cichlids can become problematic at maturity, even in 6 ft tanks.

Thanks for reply. I'll be getting a small group of 2" juveniles to grow out,at what size do they begin to pair out? and would a 6' x 18" x 18" (100g) suffice for a pair?

That size aquarium is not large enough for a pair. Minimum would be 180G with larger aquaria much preferred. Veija are large, aggressive, bulky and high bioload fish.

It isn’t uncommon for V. Fenestrata to get to over 12” , and in regards to Vieja are one of the most aggressive in the genus.

catemaco strain or the marble strain? they are prob not the same fish i’ve heard that they are a mix of synspilum and fenestratus…
The pink strain comes from Catemaco. The marbled is a man made strain

I cannot comment on the origins of the marbled variant, other than it was developed in Australia.
I have only ever kept naturally occurring species / colour variants.

As mentioned. The marbled does not occur in the wild
