Purchased a 8in motoro ray and can't get him to eat. Tried market shrimp and he attempts to, but once he gets over them won't eat them. There are also a few minnows in the tank also, no luck. The guys says he fed him worms and some type of red worm. Are the worms you buy at a bait shop or is there a specialtype or name for them somehthing I can find at the local pet shop.

Thanks

are night crawlers the same are worms you dig up in your back yard

Yes, but don't use the worms from your yard if you or your neighbours use pesticides or do a lot of fertilizing.

I buy my night crawlers from Walmart and the panfish worms which are the red worms. Rarely will you ever get an imported ray to eat frozen or dead food. I always start with live ghost shrimp, then start to feed dead ghost shrimp, and then onto frozen shrimp and worms. A lot of wild rays won't except live worms unless they are black worms. Ghost shrimp have worked for me on 16+ wild rays I have owned. For some reason they can't resist them.

Thanks for all the help I will get some fom petsmart tomorrow. That good to know about the worms in my back yard to.
The funny things is the last motoro i bought ate minnow like there was no tomorrow

Rarely but not never, both my recent WC marbles took right to cut up shrimp and tilapia. Doesn't hurt to try. But never had a ray refuse night crawlers though.

Every fish differs. Usually the night crawlers will get them going, just make sure you cut them up with all the juices pouring out, they'll go crazy for them.

I've had success with cut up red wigglers/nightcrawlers and live black worms. Does your ray have tubing over the spine? I noticed a night and day difference when I removed the tubing from two WC marble motoros I have.

Yes, it does, Do I have to remove it or what issues/ purpose does it serve?
