Marble Motoro with cloudy eyes and blood inside

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello,

Truly sorry to hear about your problem. I was looking through your past threads about the "My inside ray tank" and I found this picture.

Unfortunately, that ray's gills looks highly irritated. This could be an existing problem back in '07 that was never corrected and only escalated. It seems like it could definitely be something wrong with your water. I was check for GH, PH, and other water chemicals from your area (chlorine, chloramines, etc). Even if you are using well water, leeching of chemicals can occur and often does.

Best of luck!

Forgot to add, I would not raise the temperature. In the case that it is the water and the gills are irritated, breathing at higher temps could cause more stress due to lower levels of dissolved O2.

Just want to mention -i lost a male reticulata a year ago. He's eyes turned red after bein exposed to ammonia...

WOW

Thank you all for your input and advise. Incredible how you found those old pics, eheheh.

That ray had some gill problems but took her to my greenhouse and after a while she was fine. That inside ray tank don't have rays at this point. The rays are in this tank http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317519&page=2

The tank as more or less 1200lt and a sump with a 8500lt pump.

Now the news.
One of the rays that was with the problem died yesterday :(
The other one, the one with the blood in the eyes, seems to be a bit better.

Perhaps it was a amonia pike. I don't know. All very strange. Water is still fine. I added 2gr os salt per litter and water changes every day.

I'll keep you updated.

I've had the eyes on my leo cloud up when I forgot to change the filters on my drip system and chlorine started to enter the tank. Clean water and a week and then where all cleared up

I doubt that it has something to do with ammonia. Even when it spikes I dosent seem to have a major effect on them.

Alberto have you checked pH?, i had the same issue a few years ago with my MM and was because a sudden pH drop, it went from close to 7 to 3.8 and i didnt notice it till two days later. Once i raise pH everything went back to normal.
I dont believe its due to ammonia pike......too fast, i will look for something in the water.

Good luck my friend....hope everything goes better....

Agreed. I'll bet it's due to acidic conditions. That's why I recommended a big water change (dechlorination is assumed).
