I too love the blackies especially the ones like Marshy has,those are a special kind of quality, amongst the best BDs if not the best on this forum so i would take those over any Marble also..lol !! but would i take a average Leo,Henlei or P14 over a AAA Marble or top quality Pearl then the answer is absolutely not.
Black and white is the most amazing contrast in the animal kingdom,a killer Whale springs to mind,what an awesome creature that is but i find the more intricate patterns of a Marble or Pearl more interesting and appealing.
Lets not have a divide,lets see more blackies and brownies swimming in our tanks.
In the old days you could only get a black and white television,you wouldn't throw the colour TV out now would you?..LOL!!

ive got to agree about how a quality lightbase brown ray looks good next to a black ray,im a black and white ray man through and through,from the first time i saw one many years ago,the strikeing contrast of the black and white just amazed me and has never stopped doing that..if i was only to have one species it would be black and white for sure but when i see a nice qualty lightbase next to a black and white they set each other off..and look amazeing togethor..ive never been a fan of marbles in the past as the quality you see alot are not up to much..but when you get the quality of the likes of aquamans marbles,with the lightbase colour and thick black markins,which to be honest i have not seen anywhere else in the uk they are an amazeing ray..and in answer to the thread...yes there are people breeding marbles!..but just make sure you buy them from the right stock or you will be dissapointed when they are adults!

This is where me and the "market" don't see eye to eye. I offered my pups for sale at a higher price then other average CB pups or wild caughts. My reasoning was that the parents actually cost more then my blackies did. The "market" argued why should they buy a CB Marble for $400 when they could buy a wild caught or an average CB pup for $250-$300. The "market" believes that if you take 2 average looking parents it is possible for them to randomly produce nicer pups then AAA parents. The problem is the "market" doesn't understand that pups from AAA parents should be worth more cause there is a much more likely chance for them to turn out just as nice if not nicer then the parents (most rays pups are just as nice or nicer then the parents). But more importantly the "market" fails to realize like 3/4 of the Marbles out there loose thier wonderfull juvie pattern when they get big. How do I know this? I love Marbles. I've kept them for many years and watch many of the members' rays here develop. I've learned a lot over the years raising my own and conversing with other breeders. I've watched many once beautiful Marbles turn average or even sub par, so to me, looking at the parents that have stayed nice is worth the world to me, and defiently worth more coin when it comes time to pony up for a nice Marble. Fortunately for me I see this disagreement with the "market" as a blessing in disguise cause now I have no choice but to keep the beautiful offspring as I'd rather grow them up and rebreed them then sell them to some value shopper looking for the lowest price tag. We all know the good stuff isn't cheap and in many cases you get what you pay for.

I like blackies, don't get me wrong but people really have no idea what they're getting into when they buy those cute pups that will eventually break thier heart and bank acount as they push closer to that 30" mark and begin consuming more food per day then thier owners.

I have a group of Marbles in my 750. 6 total. My big Marble (20" across) probobly consumes almost half of the food I dump in there. The other half seems to feed the smaller 5 just fine. Would I rather keep her or the other 5? Easy question. The other 5. I couldn't imagine having to feed several large black rays at a 30" disc potential max size. I simply couldn't afford it or the enormous tank I'd need to have in order to feel my rays have the room they deserve.

Very well put! I completely agree. I too see myself holding onto most of the offspring my top notch adults produce. I too agree they are more valuable then their WC counterparts or from your run of the mill adults. Part of why I started looking for and buying adults rather then pups to be honest, you know what you are getting for the most part.

There's a saying that applies here..... Why take the butcher's word for it when you can stick your head up the cows azz and see for yourself? Er, well, anyways......

This is the same thing I did when I got into Marbles. Picked out all the really nice ones and pestered people for 3 years before they finally all resided at my place...... You pay a lot more for a ray that someone doesn't want to sell, lol, I know this to be a fact. The key to quality isn't a nice juvie it's a nice adult. Screw the milk, I want the cow!!!

In high school a hot girl with a hot mom was much more desirable then a hot girl with an ugly mom, cause the only difference between the 2 are time. No different with Marbles.

Glad to have someone along for this bumpy Marblism ride....... Maybe after that male gets the job done for real after new years he could come back for a vacation at my place. My ladies are apparently not getting the love they deserve. I may have sent lil boys in to do a man's job, as no rays are getting done. Litterally.
