Marbled Convict x Honduran Red Point

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh bull****, if we didn't have hybrids we would have 1 type of dog or cat. Hybrids are cool and expand the possibilities of owning fish.

+1 :iagree:
But there is a certain point that makes them look good vs ugly. :D

Domesticated wolves and felines have nothing to with fish.
I own the most deformed dog breed there is. Nobody would say my pure bred french bulldog dog is ugly. Once a new dog breed is formed it is petigreed. This is no way relates to a natural occuring fish.
I mean honestly, Do you want your kids growing up in a world where theres just 1 specie of convict? :D

everyones entiled to their own view...and thats great... remember this is a friggin flowerhorn hybrid blog...a colored con hybrid should not be viewed as the anti christ... I like them... I like the sized of them when they grow up... its somthing different for me since I have been raising/breeding flowerhorns the last 7 years. Anyone who wants more pics of some some of these colorful guys just let me know! Their great for me... for now!!

Domestic Canids and Felids are not Hybrids, they are domesticated forms of the Grey Wolf and African wild cat.

However there is a lot of cats beeing hybridised nowadays (Savannah, Bengal etc)

Alright.. this thread's taken an unnecessary detour, so let's get it back on track.

Thank you for providing those shots fishflipper, much appreciated.

Regarding those of you who are "anti-hybrid", I agree with you to an extent. Though there's nothing at all wrong with breeding them for yourself, issues may arise if all of us decided to crossbreed everything in our tanks and sell them to our LFS'. Though this is an issue in most scenarios, it doesn't entirely apply here. My 3 convicts (1.1 norm, 1.0 marbled) are pure-bred, along with my HRP pair that a friend of mine re-homed to me after paying an outrageous amount of money for them at an auction. As I had to specifically ask for pictures of what mine may turn out like here, it's pretty evident that the hybrid I've produced isn't common by most means.

It's not my intention to exploit my hybrids for personal gain, especially if it's going to cause an uproar with fellow aquarists. Anywho, I'll probably end up keeping the "prettiest" one for myself, and re-homing the rest. I have 200+ convict fry, 400+ hrp/mc fry, and at least 60 or so 3/4" hrp young to figure out what to do with, with more to come of course.

Hey I'd like to give you a big congratulations on breeding convicts and honduran red points. Just amazing.. Do NOT rehome your hybrids. I already know for a fact that preuss will not take them from you. No reputable fish store would take them for free.

Why do you say "issues may arise if all of us decided to crossbreed everything in our tanks and sell them to our LFS'. Though this is an issue in most scenarios, it doesn't entirely apply here."

How exactly does it not apply to your hybrids in this situation? You must be the 300th kid who has joined this site and his first thread is about breeding convicts and honduran red points. Use the search feature your hybrid is nothing special.

wait well it wasnt on purpose lol they just paired up hehe

Congrats on the succesful spawn! But you should know that many will not take selling hybrids to the public very lightly, as already shown. I now have about 30 or more Red Zebra x Yellow Lab x Red Top "Hongi" hybrid fry to deal with, which I don't mind. :)
It is your choice to choose what you do with the fish. I don't think anyone can do anything to stop you, other than to talk you out if it, lol. Either way, good luck with them!
