They are requiring public speaking class at a lot of colleges now. Personally, I hate it still.

Marine biology studies

I know here in California to transfer to a state school (and maybe a UC), you need at least one speech class and sometimes two.
I know I had to take one. Four actual speeches and one written open note test. You are going to pass if you give every speech, even if they're not great (mine weren't).

Go to youtube there are tons of videos on Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, ecology, limnology and other related sciences. This website gives you free college courses https://www.coursera.org/
It is not worth any units but it gives you college level education for free and you take it as if you are really taking a college course.

CSU requires Speech and Political Science. UC requires level 2 or higher in a foreign language. This is for California though.

What are you wanting to do with a degree in marie biology?
I ask this because I hear/talk to a lot of students and younger people who are told a marine biology degree will get you a job working with marine animals. Sadly, that's not always the case. There may be a better educational path to follow if you have a specific type of career in mind.

I am keeping my options open and will be going for a Master's probably. I may even get a minor on the side as well. But it may be Spanish or Psychology. As long as I have a specialization and it is under the umbrella of Biology I am happy about that. Public speaking really is a challenge for many. I know/known people to tell me how hard speech classes were for them or how hard they expect them to be. It is a common problem for many people. I see confident people, but put them in front of a class and they have trouble. I took an art class before and after each painting you had to go up to the front of the class for a critique. I would always be nervous but I found that if you find a person or object to focus on and not think too much about how 40+ people are staring at you, it helps a lot.
I usually just looked at the professor and answered her questions and occasionally other students' questions. One time I made the mistake and actually looked out where everyone was sitting and saw tons of eyes on me and my heart immediately started pounding. Anyway, the more you put yourself in situations like this the better you get. Also learn to control your breathing to a slow steady rhythm. And make sure you know how to use proper, formal writing. I agree with what others have said in this thread. I am amazed how poor some people write in college. Also remember, degrees like biology are only obtainable to a small percentage of people. Many people cannot get past the math, chem, and other science courses. So take it very serious.

Well i dont really have much in mind . as i said before iam still in school . i've always had an interest in animals , particularly aquatic ones . biology has always been my strongest subject. the subjects iam currently doing at school are bio , chem , physics and maths . I was pretty confused on what career to pick . i was thinking about doing veterinary but i turned that down mainly because i wasnt too keep on *only* dealing with sick animals . iam interested in learning more and finding out more about them .
