Hi,

I am finally doing the shopping for my 7 foot plywood tank build. There has been so many delays.

Anyhow I ordered the plywood sheets today.

Here is the problem,

I live in the canary islands so epoxy basically can not ordered unless it is with a boat. (too expensive to be financially viable)

Epoxy can not be transported via airplane as it is hazmat (corrosive and sometimes flammable).

I have found the following product after hours of searching:

West System 105 marine epoxy.

There are different harderers depending on how long time you want for curing.

This can be ordered locally so shipping is possible.

Is this adequate for aquariums? Anyone have any experience? My assumption is that marine epoxi has a lot of regulation with toxins and such.. I think I have read somewhere that marine epoxi is one of the options for plywood tanks.

Anything you know about?

Thankful for any info!

Have you looked at pond shield? I did 2 layers of fiberglass cloth using that resin and about 4 coats of the pond shield on mine. Neither was charged as a hazmat, just regular shipping and both are good for aquariums1000007461.png

It's not a hazmat, said it should be able to be shipped, just have to check the igic or something like that for entry into customs.

Another thought I just had, check into Formica boards for like counter tops. They are waterproof, glue them to plywood, seal the seams with silicone like a regular glass aquarium and be good to go. A guy in a Facebook group has done several big plywood tanks using that. Can get an assortment of color options to suit what you want.

I am in the process of buying pond shield. But it is not easy. It is individual sellers and they simply let the order sit for weeks and eventually cancel and refund when they do not want to ship something due to the hassle. So I have been through 3 sellers and now I am actually waiting for a shipment. Cool tank you got there. How large is it?

Wowan I'm glad you kinda got it figured out. I had issues buying sky blue pond shield, ordered 4 times and refunded every time. But the moss green I had no issues with. That is why the inside of the top isn't finished yet. I may just get resin and seal it and then paint it. Thanks, it's 500 gallons. Only has him in it. What are you planning on stocking yours with?

It's because it's basically up to the seller if they want to ship lol

He looks like a bro!

I have a 125 gallon cichlid tank which is getting a bit cramped, so this is a upgrade for my current fish. I have an oscar and a male vieja melanura so they can easily get to 14 inches which is a tad too big for a 125g
