Marineland Magnum 350 Pro?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
HMM..YEAAA stay away..,.

I had two of these..priming was a hassle..it would never prime properly..there was always a running noise sound..
then..
the o ring gasket where the top lid meets the case itself..if its been pinched in any way (and its super easy o pinch due to the way the lid would sit inside the base)..would cause a fun leak..it had the flimsiest quick disconnect..

But once its up and running it works like a charm (majority of the time)
i would have said i probably had a bad filter..but two of them? same problems?..
stay away..

I bought an eheim pro 2...2 years running solid..
never looking back..

That's what I figured... DAMN! lol Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll just pay the extra $ for a good one. Eheim, Fluval, any that I don'y know about? All suggestions appriciated.

Anyone have expierience with this filter? I have the chance to buy one pretty cheap but don't want to buy a piece of sh**.

Would really depend on what you wanted it for.
As a “Main” filter, it works O.K., lots do the job better.
Does a pretty decent job of getting your water clean of particulate. With proper sleeve/cartridge they do an excellent job of water polishing.
With a bit of tinkering they work well as a powered gravel vacuum.
The bio wheel does a good job of gas exchange and adds a decent size, out of tank, bacterial colony.
Don`t think I would pay more than $30 for one.

I've owned 3 of them over the years, still have two...

I would say they are worth their price tag... There are better filters out there, but you'll have to pay more for them...

It's true what was said about the O-ring, if you screw it up it will be screwed up... but if you don't screw it up it won't be screwed up. The O-ring on a Magnum does have to be placed just right, so I've just learned to make sure I pay attention at this step.

Priming also has to be done right in order for it to quickly prime and return to silent funtioning. But once you learn how to do it it's simple to do.

As a summary, when I have a tank that I want to increase the fine filtration on, I think the Magnum 350 (or 250) is a great choice... for most other purposes, I would likely choose a different filter.

^^^^^ I Agree. i have one on my hundred gallon and it is a fine filter have not had any problems with it and i have a had it for about a year and some change.

Keep it simple, wet/dry's, sumps, canisters and power filters (hob) do the same job...filter your tank. The difference is that the power filter or hob is the cheapest to run and the easiest n fastest to maintain...I'm tell'n ya from 20+ yrs of experience.
Get one or two hob filters and be done with it, whether an emperor 400 or ac 130. The MAJOR difference is that the hob filters don't leak like all the others while still performing the same job, all the other forms of filters WILL eventually empty your tank on your floor...TRUST ME.

Anytime you have equipment that takes the water below the tank water line it's just a matter of time before it happens cause none of us are perfect all the time...keep it simple you won't regret it.
