Marineland Magnum 350 Pro?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've heard of HOBs leaking. They still pump water outside the tank. The tanks with wet/dry filters built into their backs may be safer yet. At this point, I think you'd be limited to acrylic tanks as glass tanks would be just as likely to fail.

"empty your tank on your floor..."

Who are all those people who have successfully ran filtration systems below the tanks waterline for years, without any problem and without being perfect all the time.
Some have run the same canister for 15-20 years without so much as a drip.
Same can be said for sump based systems.
If there would be a problem, one would have to look to the operator first, then the equipment.

Will agree, 100% with keeping your first tanks filter system simple and easy to maintain.

my dad has one for ever passed it down to me works fine justs needs tubes

Just keep it simple my friend, all those other filters don't do anything special that a simple hang on back can't do at a lower cost and ease of maintenance without soaking your living room.

Lol yeah i really almost threw it out the window and had problems with it, but since i got it for free and now i know how it works its good for me.

Really depends on how cheap it is. I wouldn't run it alone or as the primary filter really. They polish the tank pretty well, and the bio wheels are fine. There are a number of cheap parts in these things that worry me (little metal clasps and O-ring mainly). I like my Rena xp3 a lot. Very simple and easy to clean, and not much more. With all that said, I have aquaclears on my tanks, too. There's a reason why you see cheap magnums popping up on craigslist a lot and not too many other filters for a good price.

I went with a Rena XP3. Simple setup, my tank looked good before but looks even better now. Thanks everybody!
Just something I did. The XP3 only comes with one package of bio stars. I had a ton of tile spacers so I boiled them and added them to the 2 empty baskets.
