with the recent recall on 100-300W Marineland Stealth heaters, what's the next best option? i think the only options available locally to me are Hydor Theo's and Jager/Eheim.

Was planning on doing 2 300W for the 120 in case one fails the other ones still going.

that's what i've been thinking the only reason i wanted marineland stealth was because they were said to be the best, only because they are shatter proof but there's a problem with the internal probes popping and sometimes shattering the tank glass.

I have a Hydor theo 150 and I like it alot. The only issue i have with is is that if i want it a 75 i have to set it for like 71. But cycles on and off fine. I've moved it a few time and it's never broken

I like the Hydor Theos. I wouldn't get anything in the 300 or 400 watt range with these. I have one in my 125, and it kept the temperature at 82 when it was set to 75 (fancy goldfish tank, toooo hot.)

The smaller ones are not as hot, and easier to maintain safe temperatures. Once you set them, and find the right temperature, they are really good at maintaining that temperature in the tank. You just can't base the temperature in your tank on what the thermostat says, because it will most likely be wrong.

the petsmart heaters (topfin) have always worked fine for me... they run a little hot but based on the other posts I think that's becoming common

Topfin makes so much crappy stuff I would be scared to try anything.

After feeding their flake food my tetras always used to become unbalanced. Hmm.

At any rate...heres another vote for the jaeger
