dude im so jealous
ive been in love with baras since i can remember
Ive always beena big Snook fisherman (their smaller saltwater cousins) and ive always wanted to fish for baras... i remember seein them in a public aquarium n they were like over 40-50 inches total BEASTS!
but i think i would be much happier with Snook as a pet... ive never seen someone keep them before...

man...
if only the ones here werent kept in saltwater tanks before they get eaten.
ive always wanted to get one.
anyone know the rate of survival for market ones?

it depends on the condidtion of the fish, i was 100% sure this fish was going to be dead by the i got home..his head was completely out of the water for at least 3 minutes, and he was upside down in the bag the whole time. i am going to bring one of my huge bags next time..just in case.

i made the guy move them around to see which was the healthiest looking, and mine came out of nowhere..the biggest one in the tank, and healthiest besides a few torn fins, and a horribly cloudy eye. but he is doing great now..eye is 100% clear now, fins are in perfect condition, he's eating like a champ and he's nice and active. i treated him for 5 days with tetracycline, and 4 days with pimafix and melafix. i am most likely going to add him to the 150g either tomorrow, or thursday..i think he is ready. :)

his name is Beast ;)

wow.
must be hardy then.
what about changng it from salt to fresh water?

You could probably try and drip acclimate him to brackish and then slowly to fresh. But I don't think anyone has ever done that with a barramundi on this site. But I would imagine slowly acclimated it would work since they go into brackish to breed and freshwater specimens are the same fish.

i agree, it could work..i don't know if i would take the chance if i was unsure about it though..
