Let me to share about marulia complex in Thailand (only I knew, I,m not channa expert). I start with the common great snakehead it is "Channa aurolineatus", others name is Channa aff. marulius (Meklong), Thai commmon name is "Pla Chon Ngu Hao" (Cobra snakehead). Normally found a lot in western Thailand (Meklong basin) and
can be found in Central Thailand (Chaophraya basin) and Southern Thailand (Tapee basin). Look at the pic!
1 small or juv.
2 medium size
3&4 Large size (but I think its diff. by age)
all of these not my fish, I used to kept this sp. but not now. See another in new thread.

thanks for sharing ..oleoleole.. this species is the longest specimen of marulia. i used to have 2 previously which i bought it at RM12-00 juvenile stage but i had to released them at the local man made pond at my area cos I need the tank for the emperor snakehead (channa maruloides). Kinda regret cos until now couldnt get this species anymore at d LFS. at juvenile stage d head is much more flat compare with maruloides. in terms of flowers i would say this species possessed more than maruloides but it's in white dotted forms and it's blotches will not be clear and neatly formed like maruloides. unlike d other species u posted in another thread..d mekong sp. that will be nicer. do you have any latest pic of your mekong sp. ? please share with us.

Hi Oleoleole... I thought the Ch. Marulia/Marulius was a species from India and not Thailand???

Had 3 juveniles like the ones in your 1 photo... cool SH - but IMO they get too large for private aquariums...

cheers,
Peter

I confirm this fish not like Channa marulius from india, it from Thailand, but I call it is Channa aurolineatus.

I agreed with him....The coloration on the body of Cobra SH from TH and IND is not the same.....The adults SH from IND are having more white dot,but the other we could see them in black color for whole body.

I'm confuse? Is Channa marulia and Channa aurolineatus the same species or two separate species?

What about channa pseudomarulia and channa sp. "mekong" or channa sp. "salween"? They all look like channa marulia to me.

So which is mine then?

Was sold as a "Isabella Toman" though this could have just been made up.
I have just id'd it as channa marulius.

Would love to know it's location.

Here it is (juvinile)
