It (commercial striped bass fishing) is illegal in many states, just not in Maryland. The "war" between we recreational fisherman shouldering the brunt of the blame for the commercial industries catostrophic effect on the various fisheries has been going on for MANY DECADES. The utter disdain between residential and commercial is nothing new, I guess I am introducing this forum to a silent "war" that has been being fought since greed for money has ruined the entire fishery.

Here is a link to a "buyout" plan for the Maryland Striped Bass fishing industry!

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/outdoors/blog/2011/01/stripers_forever_survey_bad_ye.html

I was refering to the commercial fishing of striped bass in MD, well aware where it is legal and illegal.

The buyout plan you talk about was just a survey, not a "plan."

Gliebig, that is a nice striper.

As Ms MassPoly stated, we are in for some lousy striper fishing in the coming years. Here in Maine, the fishing has been declining for 4 years.

Man thats some nice Stripers, we have them stocked here in Mo. in several lakes, but Ive never caught or seen one over 19lbs......what are the weights on those? You should really repost those in MFKs fishing section.

I'm from MO like Warmouth and would love to see one of those beauties in person. Unfortunately, I am not much of a bass or lake fisherman for that matter and they aren't in my area. No problems here with you jacking this thread. You've multiplied my interest by at least a hundred times.

hey screamin, could you please post a link to the page on the dnr website that states the closing of the recreational season. i've just had a hard time finding it. i'm not saying you're lying, i'd just like to see this from the dnr. i hope (and i hope that you hope) that this is just a misunderstanding and that the recreational fishing is in fact not closed.

Oughta be careful what you post in the background of your pictures lol. Someone might realize your fishing outside of port deposit. i fish this stretch of river fairly often for catfish, got a few 10 lbers under our belt. That pier there is great.

Anyways, it was to my knowledge that they HAVE NOT yet closed the recreational stripped bass season. This really doesnt affect me though, i dont keep rockfish or much of any fish for that matter. Catch and release is much more rewarding

It's no seacret . I only fish weekdays, so it's not to crowded when I'm out there. Besides, that's the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel. :D

I have some misunderstanding of what part of the quota the 20,000 pounds + (additional recovery over next 2 weeks) will be deducted from. If the hook and line in the commercial section only applies to true "charter" boats, than I suppose that I will not be affected. I am not sure when you purchase a captians boat license in MD. (like I have) if that does not "classify" me as a "charter". Keeping my finger crossed.
