sad to see all those fish dead. hopefully the birds got their full- without succumbing to the same poison that killed those fish!!!-jk, thanks for sharing tho. i'm still angry about not living further south. your collection threads are killing me.

lol jb

and i replied to them and got another reply back....

"i told them the location of the lake then"
and a year or 2 ago it got down into the 20's with no kills like this
and im not sure how deep the lake is but looks pretty deep

fwc reply

Thank you for the additional information; I found the area on GoogleEarth. Previous cold snaps, assuming that was the cause of the kill, may not have had an effect if they did not last long enough to actually lower water temperatures much below the surface. I know that in my area, we have had prolonged cold intermittently during the past month or so.

If you note anything new or observe a future fish kill, please contact our hotline at 1-800-636-0511.

I do not believe it was the cold......

they were here are you still ok? :grinno:
I'm still reading and typing!:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Joke aside, from the pictures you posted, I hardly believe such work was done by human, unless there is a contamination spill in the lake.

Did the water recede and they get trapped in the shallow areas.. so sad:(

wow thats just horrible! btw, i dont think this had to do with cold snaps. Couldnt they at least get a friggin water sample? all of the dead fish are around the shores and banks. Im thinking something was dumped in there (chemical) but some ignoramous.

it looks like a poisoning-but they would have to test the water. sad that so many big monsters died..but at least the birds had a feast off of them! lol

and ya the birds were very happy lol

Im really surprised you got a reply that actually hinted that the person you were corresponding with took the time to research (looked up the spot on google earth even) and look into the matter. Usually a fish kill of a relatively small scale and of fish that lack any economic importance will get over looked.

ok so I was goofin off earlier on this thread. And I apologize cuz this is really no laughing matter, Its really sad to see all these fish like this. And I have to say I do not think this was natural. If you look carefully, alot of the fish are up way out of the water. Up a ledge in some cases. And these are big fish, I dont see a buzzard picking up a 5-6 pound gar and moving it up a ledge to eat it on the side. And I dont think its poison either or cold because theres no way that a fish can make it that far out of the water by jumping. (assuming they may have been trying to escape the poison). to me it looks like someone seign netted the place and dumped all the fish on the side and then went through removing the fish they wanted. The reason I think this is because all you see is plecos and gar, 2 fish that really dont have any value as food or anything else. So it seems to me they just picked all the fish they wanted and left the "useless" ones to die. Its very sad. But I guess nobody is gonna do anything about it.
