Went to Lake Huron and brought back 1000 pounds of golf ball size rocks from the shore to use in the big tank as substrate and a couple of 6 foot huge pieces of driftwood.

Question is do I need to clean this stuff of potential pathogens or is it likely okay just to put it in?

Thanks.

cleanliness is next to not having pathogens-ness

you must clean it
boil the rocks and search the internet for drift wood remedies

I would boils the rocks and sandblast, waterblast, or even bake the wood.

I thought my 4" wood was massive.

High Pressure hose and leaving it in te sun, not much you can do unless you have a 6' pot you can boil or soak it in, maybe you could cut it into smaller pieces and butt them up against each other in the tank. Love to see some pics of it and the what size tank is it going in.

This might be a MFK first: Please, NO PIX! :)

well it might take a LONG time, but i'd mix up a large batch of a 10:1 water to bleach solution, and scrub the crap out of it with the solution. then wash it good with a pressure washer, or something of the sort, then place in tank with water, add a 2-3x the normal amount of water conditioner you'd normally use for that much water, and i think u should be alright.
