massive feeder diseased at a lfs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
SOrry to say this is not necessarily the LFS's fault. If you are not familiar with the business i wouldnt make a big deal of it. Unless the LFs you went to all the fish were icked out and dead i see your point but sometimes LFS's get bad batch of feeders and they are just S#$t and i am talking from experience here as an employee. Feeders always come in covered with fish lice etc... and if you see the way they are shipped you can tell why they are tail rot because there is 250 Fish in a gallon of water maybe two for a period of time..

hopefully you get my idea lol

99% of LFS feeders are sick and not cared for. If you want good feeders look for some good wild type guppys and set up a breeding program.

if that was the case, then they should be quarantined and treated before theyre put on the floor for sale. simple as that. LFS get feeders for next to nothing, and turn a pretty good profit on them, so there is no reason to knowingly put sick feeders out on the floor

As soon as I noticed the diseased fish I would have terminated the whole lot, like you said it was only two bucks and change.I probably would have contacted the store about the matter also but I already understand the conditions that feeders are in.I do look closely at the feeders that I am about to purchase and I wont buy them if the water is not clear as well as any visible signs of infection. There are some stores around that keep their feeders in good clean water here and I buy from them as that betters my chances at avoiding infection.

I already have a guppy and molly tank set up with breeding-just ran out of em.And yes I know, the store gets all the nasties but they shouldnt have em on the floor none the less-or have a sign up saying under observation -not for sale.I got rid of the rest of them already and drained the tank. Not a big deal.I just dont think others will even notice when they go to buy them and will wind up with a big medication bill after they use them disgusting feeders.I hope for everyone elses sake they stopped selling them.

profit is not that great.. lots of feeders die... treating the feeders on a large system is costly... why would you quarantine if you werent going to make a profit on the feeders when you account all the meds you had to use? just business sense... i still tell people they should try to get their fish of feeders and tell them of all the diseases they are probably introducing to their fish and tanks but most dont care and just think that feeding feeders is cool

tried breeding guppies in a 20g...ended up just saying screw the guppies and put some cuban fry in it lol
