What does this have to do with central and south american cichlids?

The photo is a carp - not a goldfish. Carp have barbels while goldfish do not. The researchers are catching goldfish, but apparently the blog writer and the news anchors can't tell the difference. Goldfish are not going to hit 36" either - 18" is about the max.

As a side note - electrofishing for exotic species is a blast.

just more food for trouts, and large mouth, which are not native or endangered. they have lake trouts up there that can easily eat them.
