Massive Nitrate problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I was thinking about putting plants in. The problem is, my catfish destroys anything I put in there. PetSmart has some Live Plants in driftwood, so that would probably work.

Don't plants make the water really dirty though? I tried it once, but of course that was a long time ago in a really small tank.

No. The leaves will break off and there will be some extra maintaining that you will have to do but I think its worth it. It gives your tank a nice healthy look and it is also good for the fish. You don't have to cover your whole tank just a few plant here and there.

ya live plants are what i use, but keep in mind, as the plants decay it raises your ammonia, and the plant will also lower your ph over time

What are your nitrates at? What do they drop to if you change half the water?
