umm.. have you tried putting the betta in the tank to see if he tries to fight himself? lol

and just me but i'd probably wouldn't put a filter with a betta. no need to.

The reflection is due to Snell's law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snell's_law

The only reflection the fish sees is from the glass directly in front of it's eyes, like when you get into your car and can see yourself in the glass (assuming it's clean ). It will never look like the nice mirror image that you captured in your picture.

Correct. i put a mirror next to my betta for a little while every few days. He changes colors a little and flares up. Fun to watch and makes him feel like a tough guy when it goes away.

@NilePuffer That was a great explanation! Actually, come to think of it, I remember learning about Snell's law in physics a while back...

The tank is almost finished, I'm just putting up some aluminum lining around the outside, then i'll get my betta and see how he does.

did you have to have the glass beveled to get a good seal, or did you just silicon three normal pieces together for the sides?
