massivore pellets are really good for them... i know the smell sucks tho... like someone said you migth try running carbon it can take odors out... tilapia would also be something you could try... my aro, tiger shovelnose, clown knifes, and tig all like that.... goodluck with the smell...
I actually found that leaving massivore exposed to air for a while makes it smell less... Sort of "air it out." I accidentally left a bag open for a while and it smelled much less after that. It might have a small effect on the nutrients, but I would honestly guess not too much.
massivore pellets is fish food... primarily fish... so it has a fishy taste and smell... if you are feeding... remember what goes in also must come out... more water changes will eliminate the smell... but i would not eliminate the massivore pellets because this is the healthy food ... packed with additional vitamins etc.. you can always add other foods.. but i would use them as the treat and the massivore as the staple.. and be happy he loves them..

it has a big effect on the nutrients and a big effect on the taste... and massivore is too expensive to spoil or go stale... i would suggest every time to seal bag good... just like you do with your food...if the smell is that bad to you..store tightly shut bag in refrigerator.. not in your room
Sorry for the dead thread bump, but is better than re-posting a new one. I just jumped on the Massivore wagon this weekend purchasing it for the first time with my new 8" Lima Shovel nose. Anyway upon opening the bag I smelled it, and yes it was bad, but only when up close. I threw 5 pellets into the water and watched as they were gobbled up. I went back to the sunroom where I was playing GH with my brother in law and nephew. Over the next hour I kept smelling rotten poop farts, and was yelling at my nephew to stop farting. Upon opening the door to the room the fish was in I was amazed by the horrible smell and how strong it was. I looked in the tank and saw 1 pellet was hidden behind a flowerpot in the tank so the cat couldn't eat it, I removed it, and in a few hours the smell was gone.
The 8" Lima was in a 20G(+) styrofoam cooler with a aqueon 30 and Biowheel 20 for the weekend (I was staying at their house for the weekend), so it was in a small container, it is now in my 180 and doing fine. Now I am scared to death to use the massivore in my tank though and this stuff aint cheap.
Was the smell most likely caused by the small temp container and the one pellet that didnt get eaten, or am I gonna have to deal with this smell as long as I use massivore, if so I think I've wasted my money because I cant deal with that.
Also I hear charcoal helps is this true? I don't use charcoal in any of my tanks as they are properly cycled and have no odor. But if picking up a bucket will remove the smell I'll buy some.
I noticed that in my 180 with the huge wet dry the smell was always bad after feedings.
I later set up a 90 gal with a eheim canister, and never noticed the smell when I fed massivore to the fish in it.
I think all the air exchange in the overflows gets the smell airborne alot worse. It always went away after a couple of hours, and was worth it to me because the fish enjoyed it so much.
If you are using a wet dry and the smell bothers you, consider switching to canisters.
