I don't know if other people have this problem, but whenever I feed Massivore or sinking Cichlid Gold pellets to my datnoids, the water turns brown within a few days. I know it's the Hikari pellets because I stopped giving them Massivore for a week and fed them nothing but rinsed market shrimp and the water looked ok.

Does anybody else have this problem with Hikari pellets? I rinse the pellets in a cup before feeding now, and it's amazing how quickly the water in the cup turns brown from the pellets.

I've never had a problem with Hikari cichlid pellets, but I recently started trying Massivore. That stuff is NASTY. I haven't noticed it discoloring the water, but the smell is incredible

never had that problem personally, although my fish tend to eat everything before it hits the floor...

Yeah I stopped using Massivore once it made my whole room REAK...Ive never had problems with other Hikari products though.

Never noticed it making the water colored, I did notice when my Jack and Oscar eats it some small peices com out of their gills, I have smaller fish with them that have no problem eating the small peices, but If I didn't have them to eat the small peices my tanks would probably get discolored pretty quick, and Massivore thats not eaten fast will smell horrid.

If you want to use it and reduce smell, don't just throw some in the tank, locate your fish and throw a pellet to them making sure they get it right away.

I concur about the smell, but when I was using Massivores, I NEVER had water discoloration. Are you possibly using driftwood of some kind as well? This is the only thing that discolored my water.

I use a staple of Cichlid sinking from Hikari and the little carnivore pellets-My Oscars love the stuff and my bichirs are catching on.

hes leting the pellets sit and disolve most likely on the botom of the tank . wich in turn is turning the watter brown

i had the same problem of water discoloration when my dad used to over feed my fish and i would have left over pellets on the floor. now after teaching my dad how to feed my fish my waters fine

First off, how big is your tank, how many fish do you have that eat Massivore, how much do you feed them and also what are using for filtration? I wouldn't soak the pellets in a cup before feeding them because by the time you put them in the tank, they already have started soaking in water and getting soft so by the time you put them in, they will already start falling apart thus making the water browner because there will be little particles that the fish won't eat and the particles might sink into the substrate thus turning the water brown a few days later.
