mastacembelus compatibility

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've kept fire eels and an elipsifer eel with them. I think as long as their around the same size they hould be fine. Only thing is the elipsifer doesnt get nearly as big as the tire track or the fires so you will probably have to move it somewhere else.

did they ever fight? would a tire track be compatible with other tire tracks or only other eels that don't look like them?

Personally, I have never seen a tire track or fire fight with anything. They usually mind their own business. In my exp, the tires and the fires have the same personalities so it shouldnt be a problem keeping two or more tires together.

cool, thanks

has anyone else kept 2 or more spiny eels together?

i have 2 armatus in one tank and 2 fires in the other. no problems thus far. the fires sometimes bite eachother in the tail but nothing serious. never had one open wound or anything. a friend of mine had a whole bunch of fires and tts in one tank and never any problems. i'd say go for it.

what size is your tank and what size was your friend's tank?

I currently have a 7" Zig-Zag and an 8.5" Tire-track together in a 55 gal. I know that eventually (probably sooner than later with the way this guy eats and grows) I'll be placing the Zig-Zag back in my community tank with the angels, Rams, and such, but as they are close to the same size right now they actuallyu seem to enjoy each other's company. They're almost always around the same part of their tank, but they seem to inhabit different haunts. The ZZ likes to bury himself in the sand with his head sticking out, while the TT tends to hang out in the plants more. But at feeding time, they do this odd sort of "swirl-dance" as they take bloodworms and mysis. I've never seen any aggression between the two, and all fins look perfect.

P.S. - I'm also interested in hearing what the size of your friend's tank is. 'Cause that would make one hell of a show tank!

I kept 5 fire eels ranging from 6"-13" and a peacock eel 8" in a 29g. They gotta a long fine and would hudle together even though there was lots of caves. they seemed quite peacful together. I think you should go for it. Just be sure to keep an eye on them.
