Currently have two fires at 20" together. They are fine together and even share the same cave.
Really impressive when they both stick there heads out for food.

Here are some pics. Sorry the photos are junk, can't takepics for crap:)

nice eels, they look huge :WHOA:

i tried putting a 5" pleco with my eel today and the eel would not leave it alone. As soon as the eel saw the pleco, he would attack it. When the pleco tried to escape, the eel would follow it around the tank biting at its tail and its side. I removed the pleco because i was afraid the eel would kill it. So are there any other fish, besides other eels, that i could keep with my eel? Maybe something a little more aggressive than the pleco, something that can fight back? could i keep some mbunas with the eel, and do you guys have any recomendations for tankmates?

In the tank with the eels, there are 1 silver aro, 2 siameses tigers, 1 fly river turtle, 1 royal knife, 1 sailfin pleco and 1 upside down catfish (dont ask). Hmmm, strange that the eel was interested in the pleco. Its true though, that every fish has a different personality. Makes it interesting (and sometimes you wanna pull your hair out):)

yeah, must be your fish in particular... me and my friend here have kept eels with a lot of fish: tetras (no armatus, just fire eels with these small ones), loaches, other plecs of all sorts, other eels, gars, little pikes, barracudas, datnoid, polypterus species, tigs etc. never problems.
i have no exp with mbu's but from what ive read i dont think the mbu will leave the eel alone in the end.

@ aro-man, great looking eels bro, nice size too!

wow i wish i could keep my eel with small fish like that. Oh and i didnt say mbu:D ... i said mbuna, cichlids from lake malawi. Have you ever kept african cichlids with your eels? do you think my eel would try to kill a group of medium sized semi-aggressive fish? maybe if i added a group of fish, the aggression from the eel would be spread between all of the fish? i dont know, its just that the tank looks empty with only my eel in there.

i also kept some malawi with my younger fire eels for a while. the malawi even produced some youngsters. i was happy with the small fish as the fire eels could eat them but after a couple of months, the fry were a couple of cm and untouched. they just dont eat fish here. if i had armatus in that tank im sure the small fish would have been eaten.

Man its been a while since I posted here but whenever there is talk of eels I cant help say some compliments those are some beautiful Fires you have I 1 fire about 6 inches (one passed for some reason) and 4 tire tracks largest is about 14 inches now in a 280 gallon with 12 malawi chichlids and a slider turtle and they have all lived in peace for about year now so Fishyfan I think the key is lots of room and plenty of hiding spots you pleco was probably invading hide spots of your eels my recomendation terra cotta pots look kinda cool and they do the trick
