Mata mata

I was sooooooooo close to picking up a mata mata today at the reptile swap. There was only one for sale, 5-6" shell, listed at $275 (which I'm sure could have been negotiated down a little).

I would have picked it up, but as I was talking to the seller, we got on the subject of FRT's. He said he gets them in too from time to time and usually sells them for $250ish. After hearing that, I decided to pass on the mata mata and wait until he gets an FRT in. He also said that, not long ago, one of the other sellers gotten a bunch in. They were a little beat up, so he sold them all off at 175 a piece :WHOA:

So that was my day at the swap. What would you guys have done, picked up the mata mata or waited for the possibility of an FRT?
 
I would have gotten the mata and then waited for the frt's to come in...

Given the choice of only one I would have waited still.....
 
250 is a steal....i would of maybe took that

Yeah, I told him if he could get me a pair of matas I'd take them, but he said he has no control over what sex he gets. He just grabs whatever's available whenever he can. He said he can only pay a certain max price to make his profit, so he doesn't come accross deals in his price range very often. Because he does get them so cheap though, I'm willing to wait a while for one.

I'd personally rather own a pair of mata matas. But since that wasn't available, I'd rather own a single frt than a single mata.

We'll see what he's got next time. They have swaps every 2 weeks.
