Another option could be a combination of surfave skimming bulkheads and ones lower in the tank, best of both worlds

I think ive decided to do that, one surface skimmer, 1.5in. And one "bottom skimmer" designed the way you have it in that diagram. Does that have a name?
Again... Total noob here.
How would that affect flow rate? I imagine it would basically be the same as having two normal surface skimmers.

Not sure on the flow rates. This winter im changing over my 40 tall to this system. Not sure what it's called either.

Im assuming since it has more pumbing and bends that it wont flow exactly the same as a simple surface skimmer. But either way youve got more than 1 drain and the system should be adequate.

I would try oversizing the plumbing outside the tank a little. It should basically be 2 90* elbows and a tee. The curved sanitary elbows would probably flow better than straight 90*s. Ive decided off my 1.25" bulkhead im running 2" plumbing outside. Make sure your vent is adequate and high enough up that it wont spill water. It may be tricky to get the water level dialed in. I'd test it with thr pump and both drains running and the pipes dry fitted not glued together.
