Help me out here folks. I have a "Flowerhorn" that looks like a blue trimac and "he" is about 4 1/4". I put him in my 135, where my 7" GT lives and they have teamed up in a cave that I built and the GT is doing all kinds of shaking and digging. It seems like mating behavior. Is it even possible for a GT and a flowerhorn to produce fry?
I always thought the FH was male but if I apply the Trimac sexing rule of her lateral bar extending onto the dorsal fin it seems female is very likely. Here are a couple pics of him/her. Let me know what you guys think

FH looks female, GT can't crossbreed like that, so you might get a good pair out of it but no fry. At least they aren't beating eachother up though.

Can't answer that one, my green terrors were laid back, and my flowerhorns are snotty bastards. If I put a green terror in with my flowerhorn it would be getting chewed apart. It going to be an experiment for you to find out. As it is, the two fish might end up fighting in the end like it is. Time will tell.

Yeah man my FH is a real turd but the GT has 3" on him so it's not so bad. There is a 4.5" male Jag in there and he has his territory established and he seems to be doing okay. He's having to defend his zone against both the GT and FH but he's doing it well.

By GT do you mean Green Texas or Green Terror? If its a Texas and its a male then yes you will get fry because your flowerhorn looks female. Flowerhorn are CA hybrids and all CA cichlids can interbreed. If its a Green Terror then don't hold your breath because they cannot interbreed because its a SA cichlid. The only SA that has ever been proven to hybridize is the Festae.

Thanks for the info Chris. Yes the GT is male and sorry for the confusion, its a Green Terror. Wasn't sure if they even could produce offspring, but I know Viejas have been bred with FHs. Definitely not hoping for eggs, just curious and confused that they paired up the way they did.
