I went to Audubon Park this morning (New Orleans) and I was walking along the edge of the lagoon. I saw a large fishtail go under and thought it might be a bowfin so I went up to the very edge to look for possible bowfin nests.

And I saw two spotted gar in the shallow water right next to each other nudging each other....mating possibly? Anyway I thought it was really cool because I'd never seen wild gar before:)

You should check up on them from time to time. If they are spawning, try to catch a few fry and ship them to me please lol.

Thats cool. Catch me some eggs. Do you know what kind it was?

My guess is spotted gar. They had relatively short-looking mouths and I'm not sure the pond at Audubon can support alligator gar.

And believe me; I'd get some eggs or babies if I could but I go to the architecture school across the street meaning a)no time to keep fish :( b)no money to keep fish :( and c)not allowed to have a fish tank larger than 10 gal.

oh well....Maybe one day I'll have a gar but I think I'll hold out for a bowfin:)
