So I decided last night that as much as I love my RD, most of my other fish fit into the medium aggressive niche. unfortunately for my other fish this meant that as the RD was growing larger it was becoming increasingly more aggressive to the other fish and especially during feeding time. I decided today to take him down to my LFS and swap him for something a little less aggressive.

I ventured out to create a more aggressive tank, but as time goes on and you purchase more fish I found the only aggressive fish I had was this guy, so the mature thing to do would be to let someone else have him for a more suitable home. If I had a spare 55 laying around I would´ve kept him but I still stand by my decision instead of having One nice Midevil and a bunch of dead and injured other fish. I swapped him for a little 2.5" black stripey Oscar as I felt that not only would he grow quickly but his temprement will fit in a lot better with the tank.

So now all my other tankmates are showing off and trying to decide who is the big boss now, so far I think its either the Bifa, Madagascan, or the new Nicaraguensis male. I also completely rescaped the Aquarium so when its all settled down I will take some new pics.

Has anyone else had to make a decision like this with their tanks best interest in mind ? the RD was one of my first 3 fish and I guess from that point on I went a less aggressive route.

Happened to me before. It's tough but good choice. I have parted with a midevil before and I didn't want to but I have a feeling the rd species will make its way back into one of your tanks in the future

Hey Aquamonster! thanks, it's a hard choice but they really are magnificent fish. If I get a spare 55-75 I will have to pick up a little one and grow him.
did you decide on anything to keep you in the hobby or are you still unsure_

Yes that has happened to me as well, but the other way around. My first fish ever was a RTBS and I loved him dearly. Unfortunately, he could not keep up with my larger american cichids. I brought him back to my LFS, and it was very difficult for me since I had him for years.

Sounds good to me Aquamonster! glad to know that youre not leaving definately.

and White15 thats the worst part where you have to get rid of someone you've had for years.

That sucks you had to part with your RD...he was looking good too, its not easy parting with fish you really like...I know because I got rid of a cobalt blue and a electric blue about 3 months ago that I really liked but they were just too aggressive. What was harder about the whole thing was I returned them to my LPS knowing they most likely wouldn't be going to as good of a home.

yeah thats one thing that sucks, if you dont think they will be well looked after. My lfs gets quite a few medium sized dempseys and texas cichlids in as returns and they are usually gone within 4 days to a week so im pretty sure someone will take my guy to a good home

The good thing when you sell on CL is that you know who is buying the fish. My friend sold his fish on CL and the person sent him pictures of his fish in their new huge tank.

Yeah thats a lot better cause you could always ask the person about their set up and ask to see pictures before making the sale.
